โ€œEvery part of the body contains a unique type o โ€œEvery part of the body contains a unique type of intelligence, a particular form and function that maintains its innate biological equilibrium as well as that of the whole system.

When this equilibrium is disturbed, we get sick, as the vital expression is perturbed to the point where it loses its self-organization with the rest of the bodyโ€™s ecosystem.
The part is no longer in synch with the whole.

To inform us that something is wrong, the body speaks to us through the language of symptoms, which are its intelligent dialect informing us how to come back to โ€œhomeodynamis.โ€
Vitalism sees symptoms as a language.

They are not enemies to fight; instead, they are intelligent communications to listen to, translate, and follow to their roots in order to enact an appropriate cure.โ€

Marshmallow is one of our most beloved demulcent h Marshmallow is one of our most beloved demulcent herbs, known for getting deep into the tissues and hydrating dryness through its mucilaginous polysaccharides. ๐Ÿ’ฆ๐ŸŒฟ๐Ÿค

Since the body is especially prone to heat conditions when overly dry, Marshmallow addresses the root cause by replenishing moisture, which in turn relieves symptoms. One particular pattern itโ€™s often used for is yin deficiencyโ€”a concept in Chinese medicine where heat arises due to a lack of moisture rather than โ€œtrue heat.โ€

Its demulcent nature also gives rise to other incredible herbal actions, like its ability to modulate both inflammation and the immune response. When Marshmallow reaches the gut, the body recognizes it as an antigen, which stimulates the immune system while simultaneously calming inflammation by dispersing heat in the tissues. ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿผ

I absolutely LOVE Marshmallow. Itโ€™s a beautiful herb to begin working with if youโ€™re new to herbalism. Its taste is gentle, and all of its propertiesโ€”energetics, actions, and affinitiesโ€”work together in a simple yet magical way. From ancient Egypt to the modern day, Marshmallow remains a cherished plant ally ready to support your healing journey. ๐ŸŒฟ๐Ÿ’š๐ŸŒฟ

๐ŸŒฟ๐Ÿ’œ Overwork & Stress Tincture with Blue Verv ๐ŸŒฟ๐Ÿ’œ Overwork & Stress Tincture with Blue Vervain ๐Ÿ’œ๐ŸŒฟ With its upright form, bitter taste, and antispasmodic effects, Blue Vervain clearly signals its gift: relieving tension.

Because it's so bitter, this plant is best taken as a tincture. Here's one of my favorite blends when Iโ€™m stuck in mental loops, my neck is locked up, or I just canโ€™t seem to slow down and rest.

Formula:

This blend combines calming nervines and gentle adaptogens. Blue Vervain, Chamomile, and Agrimony relax the nervous system and release held tension. Ashwagandha and Shatavari nourish the endocrine system and rebuild depleted energy.

Itโ€™s especially helpful for those feeling frazzled, overworked, and mentally burnt out.๏ฟฝTake 30 drops 3x/dayโ€”or adjust to your needs.

Happy Mother's Day๐Ÿ’— The journey of motherhood h Happy Mother's Day๐Ÿ’— The journey of motherhood has been the most transformative and beautiful experience of my life. Itโ€™s truly a wonder and miracle to carry life and birth a new being into the world and to care for and nourish them as they grow. As extraordinary as it is, any mama knows motherhood is also SO challenging, exhausting and physically depleting. Thankfully we have some herbal allies who have been supporting womenโ€™s bodies through the childbearing continuum throughout the ages, such as these ones below๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿผ

For some extra nourishment, hereโ€™s the tea blend I drank throughout both my pregnancies and while nursing my babes, but this tea is nutritive for mothers at any stage of life:

Equal parts of:

I like to steep this tea blend in a thermos for a long infusion, at least an hour or overnight to get the most minerals out of the herbs and add a spoonful of honey to drink. I adjusted the strength of the tea from a few tsp to a few tbsp depending on where I was at in pregnancy, postpartum & breastfeeding (milder infusion for pregnancy!)*

This tea blends has herbs which are high in calcium, iron and trace minerals, but also works to restore tone to the uterus, replenishes the blood and supports making nutrient rich breast milk. Though these herbs are nourishing & nutritive, they alone canโ€™t provide all a motherโ€™s body needs - I also recommend eating nutrient dense ancestral foods (follow @westonaprice to learn more) which provide the essential foundation mothers & babies need to flourish for life.

Cheers mama! I raise my cuppa tea to all the amazing women nurturing life forth through the generations, to our mothers and grandmothers we wouldnโ€™t be here without๐Ÿ’

*Always follow common sense, research your herbs, consult your midwife, doctor or herbalist before taking herbs while pregnant or lactating to ensure safety & correct dosage for your unique body.
Is Ginkgo Really an Ancient Brain Booster? Weโ€™ Is Ginkgo Really an Ancient Brain Booster?

Weโ€™ve all heard the hypeโ€ฆGinkgo biloba is the herb for memory and brain health. But what if I told youโ€ฆ its legendary reputation isnโ€™t quite what it seems? ๐Ÿคฏ๐ŸŒฟ

Yes, the Ginkgo tree is ancient, but the use of its leaf as medicine? Thatโ€™s a modern invention. In traditional Chinese medicine, it was the Ginkgo nutโ€”not the leafโ€”that was used, and it wasnโ€™t even for memory. It was a remedy for damp, phlegmy coughs and had to be processed carefully because of its mild toxicity.

The truth is, the Ginkgo leaf didnโ€™t enter the herbal spotlight until the 1960sโ€ฆ and most of the research on it was done using a super-concentrated extract you wonโ€™t find growing in your backyard.

While Iโ€™m not the biggest fan of phytopharmaceuticals nor standardized extracts and usually prefer whole plant extracts, Ginkgo is one exception to that rule. If you want to experience the true benefits of Ginkgo, a standardized extract is the way to go. Now that you know the truth behind Ginkgo leaf, you can find a product that will help you find the results that youโ€™re looking forโ€”and start remembering where you left your keys.

Sadly, there are many products on todayโ€™s market to eradicate this wonderful plant so you should be cautious if harvesting near roadways and in fields, as they may have been sprayed with pesticides or herbicides. Know the area and its history before picking.

The entire plant is generally left alone by animals as the bitterness works as a protective mechanism, which is why its not so favorable to some folks.

As its taproot is fleshy, thick and dives deep into the soil, its bears well in droughts and will not be killed if the crowns of the roots are cut. Any part or piece of a root will sprout leaves and grow into a new plant (which is why its not well loved by those common gardeners and farmers).

๐ŸŒฟ Do you ๐’๐’†๐’†๐’… to be a botany expert ๐ŸŒฟ Do you ๐’๐’†๐’†๐’… to be a botany expert to be a great clinical herbalist? Not exactly. But if you want a deeper, more intuitive connection with the plants you work with, learning botany matters.โ

Too many practitioners donโ€™t even know what their herbs look like in the wildโ€”and that limits their relationship with the medicine.โ

โœจ If you want to become a more grounded, well-rounded herbalistโ€ฆ get out into the field. Learn their names. Meet them in person. Thatโ€™s where true understanding begins.โ
